haley product specialist career employee spotlight 180 medical

Describe an average day in the life of a Product Specialist.
As a Product Specialist, my goal is to match our customers with the right catheter that will meet their needs and give them the best comfort and result during the cathing process. Everyone is an individual with different needs, so catheters are not a one-size-fits-all type of product. For instance, we may talk to someone who wants to be able to self-cath in a public restroom without feeling like everyone knows what she/he is doing in the stall. Or we may help a mother find the right product for her newborn son and help her on how best to catheterize him. The relationships we make with our customers ultimately help guide them to the specific product that will fulfill a need for them. A typical day for me is spent speaking to our customers about their lives, products, and how their insurance works to cover the catheters.

What do you love most about your job position?
The best part about my job is helping our customers. There is nothing more rewarding than making someone’s quality of life better by helping serve their needs in different products. It is incredible to know that I am instrumental to helping people become more confident and independent with their supplies. I love it most when a customer tells me that they were able to leave their house for the first time in weeks or that they’ve been infection free for a significant amount of time because of the products we have sent!

What is unique about 180 Medical that makes it a neat place to work?
180 Medical is all about 'framily.'  We've got a special group of people here. Co-workers become friends that genuinely care about your work life and even outside of work. 180 Medical is all about team efforts to reach goals and giving support and service. We are encouraged to spend as much time as needed on the phone with our customers. We also get to spend time with customers and our community at various charity events like the annual MS Walk, wheelchair basketball fund-raisers, the annual Corporate Challenge, and more. I'd say that, in many cases, we are able to go far beyond what other companies would do to help with their needs.

Anything you would say to someone thinking about applying for a job here?
Be ready to grow! I started at 180 Medical a little over 3 years ago and have transitioned into 3 different roles. I have learned so much from insurance processes and procedures to how to teach someone to use a new product and so much more along the way. This is a place of opportunity!

What's one of your favorite stories of how you helped or interacted with a customer?

When I first started working here at 180 Medical, I had a customer who had been cathing the majority of her life with a glass catheter, which had left her bed-ridden with infections for years! I made it my mission to find something we could do to help her. I was able to pair this sweet woman with an advanced catheter that was more in line with her specific needs and taught her every step of the way on how to use it. I’ll never forget when she called later on and told me that, after a few weeks of using the new catheters, she was able to visit a school function for her grandchildren. Tears of joy all around on this call! I’ll never forget her and so many others that have experienced similar situations.

Tell us a bit about yourself outside of work.
I enjoy working out, cooking, and watching remodeling shows! My husband, dogs, and I are an active bunch. We love strolling through the neighborhood and talking about the future. Cooking while watching remodeling shows is ideal; however I enjoy both equally on their own as well.

A big thank you to Haley and to each one of our hard-working, compassionate Product Specialists. You do so much for others, and the work you put in every day is so important to 180 Medical.

Seth, what do you do as a Sales Manager?

My day is full of appointments and cold calls with established and potential accounts. Every day is something different and new for me, even though I've been with 180 for 5 years now.  I am currently covering territory in the northeast.

What do you love most about your job?

I love being out and about on a daily basis.  I've been doing it my entire career, and I don't know how I would function behind a desk if I had to.  Also, there is never a dull moment in the field. There are always new challenges to overcome. It keeps things interesting!

What’s unique about 180 Medical that makes it such a great place to work?
180 is still a family even though we are growing like crazy.  I worked for a major drug company prior to 180 Medical, and there, you are just a number -- not a name. It is very rare to have this kind of dynamic in our industry. I feel very fortunate to be a part of the company.

Anything you’d say to someone thinking about applying for a job here?
This is the place you want to be if you want to prove yourself and excel. There is upward mobility, and the structure allows a top performer to stand out and be recognized.

What's one of your favorite stories of how you helped or interacted with a customer or facility?
There is a guy on one of our national brochures who is a patient of one of my old facilities. I remember the lengths the inside team and I went to in order to help him out, and in the end, it was definitely appreciated. He even uploaded his own YouTube video praising 180 Medical, and when I saw that, I knew this was why I am doing my job -- to help others!

Tell us just a little bit about yourself.
I love to play golf, although I rarely get time to play anymore with a 1-1/2 year old and another baby on the way (due date is Valentine's Day 2015). I've been married for 6 years. I like to cook, and I regularly tear my house apart to start new projects constantly -- it's what I do to de-stress.

What's a favorite quote that keeps you inspired?
"Seek first to understand, then be understood." -- Stephen Covey. It's a great quote and a good line to live by, especially when dealing with many different types of people on a daily basis.

We'd like to give a big thank you to Seth and to all of our amazing Territory Sales Representatives and Managers in the field! Your work is so important to 180 Medical!

180 Medical Employee Spotlight: Billing Specialist

by Jessica October 9 2014 14:10
180 Medical is a national leader in the intermittent catheter industry, and we also provide ostomy and other related supplies. We recruit employees who are positive, hard-working individuals who want to enjoy going to work. We offer a competitive benefits package, extensive training, and many fun extras and perks. 180 Medical was also named one of the Best Places to Work in Oklahoma for the 5th year in 2014.

This month, we're happy to feature Chelsea from the Billing Department.

billing specialist employee spotlight 180 medical

What are some of your main job duties as a Billing Specialist at 180 Medical?

Billing Specialists are responsible for a wide range of duties involving customer's insurance companies. We file claims daily as well as appeal claims we have had problems being paid on. Once we are paid by the insurance company, we are responsible for making sure that every payment is posted to each customer's account to maintain accuracy on customer's monthly statements.

I personally specialize in resolutions in the Billing Department, which involves working on and appealing older claims.

What do you love most about 180 Medical?

180 Medical is one of the few companies I know that genuinely cares both about their customers and their employees. Even though we don't get to interact with our customers in the billing department as much as some of the other positions in the company, I love knowing that we are helping to make a positive difference in our customers' lives. The environment that we work in is happy and positive. It's a job that you wake up in the morning excited to come to work.

Anything you’d say to someone thinking about applying for a job at 180 Medical?

If you are looking for a change in careers and you want to work somewhere that you can make a difference in others' lives, I encourage you to apply. Not only is it a very rewarding job, we tend to have some fun as well! I have been here for two years, and I continue to learn new things, and I have loved every day of it!

What's one of your favorite stories of how you helped one of our customers?

I was on the phone with one of our customers recently, and we were having issues with her insurance processing the claims correctly which had caused her to receive a large bill. When she called, she was initially very concerned about this. We worked on the issue, and then later in our conversation, when we were able to get the insurance problem straightened out, she broke down in tears and expressed to me how thankful she is for our company. She said she is so grateful to know that we are such an honest company that's always willing to help her with all questions she has regarding her supplies or insurance problems. When we finished our conversation, all of her questions were answered, and it seemed like she was no longer worried about the issue. It's a nice feeling to help others like that, and it makes me feel proud to work at a company that our customers look at so highly.

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I am originally from Sioux Falls, SD. I lived there until I came down to Oklahoma City to attend college at Heartland Baptist Bible College for three years. I met my husband while I was here in college, and that is how I have ended up staying here in Oklahoma. I love camping, hiking, going to the lake and traveling! I am also a huge Thunder fan. However, I do feel like a bit of an outsider in Oklahoma, because I am not much of a college football fan. Thunder Up!

Thank you to Chelsea and all of the employees that make up our Billing Department, each of whom play such an important part in our daily operations at 180 Medical.

180 medical employee spotlight oklahoma city careers

What do you do as a Verifications Specialist?
Our group verifies that each customer's Medicare and Medicaid insurances are active each month before the order is shipped. For those customers receiving home health, we will work with their home health agency to make sure they continue to receive their supplies in a timely manner.

What do you love most about 180 Medical?

I love feeling like we can make a difference in people's lives. And there are so many fun perks of working here, like the casual atmosphere – not many companies let you wear jeans and t-shirts to work! It's great to wear my orange and black on Friday to support my Oklahoma State Cowboys or the blue for OKC Thunder. When we make our weekly company goals, we are rewarded with fun treats. My favorites are bundt cake, pretzels, or ice cream! We also have events like bowling, Corporate Challenge, Jim Thorpe run, Red River Rivalry 180 medical fun work environment thunderChili Cook-off, and we decorate the offices when our home NBA team, the OKC Thunder, is in the playoffs.

Anything you'd say to someone thinking about applying for a job here?
There is so much to like about this company. Love the feeling you get when you can help those who are in a difficult situation and try to make their day a little easier. The company is great on rewarding individuals that work hard. If you like to work hard and help others, this may be the right fit for you!

What's one of your favorite stories of how you helped a customer?
Don’t really have one specific story, but I can say it is always makes me feel good when you feel that you have made someone’s day a little better. Sometimes when we call customers, they're already dealing with various health issues and frustrations, but it feels so good to know I can help, in being a part of 180 Medical. When people thank us through their tears, it's been a fulfilling day.

Tell us a little bit about yourself.
The most exciting thing to happen to me lately is that I became a grandma! Love my little Braxton who is just turning 2. In the past, I did a lot of crafts and sewing as a hobby, but mostly now I just enjoy it when I get to babysit my grandson and take it easy. I'm a big Oklahoma State (OSU) fan -- love my Pokes! I hope to cross off an item on my "Bucket List" in the next few years and take my grandson, daughter, and son-in-law to the most magical place: Disney World!

What is your favorite inspiring quote or thought?
“Choose Joy – joy is not in things; it is in us.” I listen to the Bobby Bones radio show every morning, and one of the DJ’s mom is battling cancer. To honor her mom in a positive way, the radio station had a whole week dedicated to the purpose of spreading joy and happiness. In other words, to try to do good things for others and not let hardship or difficult times cause you to lose hope. I was really inspired by that thought to continue to choose joy, no matter what.

A big thank you goes out to Linda and the rest of the Verifications Specialists, all of whom play an important part in our daily operations at 180 Medical by verifying insurances and helping customers who are transitioning to and from Home Health services.

What are some of your main job duties as a Referral Specialist?
The Warm Transfer department has a wide variety of projects that we are responsible for. Our primary goal is making sure that any customer that is referred to 180 Medical and cannot be serviced is transferred to a provider who can meet their needs. This happens in varying situations, such as when a customer has insurance that we are not contracted with or if they require medical supplies that we do not normally provide (since we specialize in intermittent catheters and ostomy supplies). Even when we can't provide for a customer, we take extra care and effort to make sure that they get transferred to a provider who can handle their needs. We also work various special projects that need to done throughout the year.

What do you love most about 180 Medical?
I love our on-site gym! Once I leave work for the day, I don’t have the time or the energy to go the gym. But 180 Medical provides us with a training facility and the availability to work out before, during (on lunch break), and/or after work. And that's really just one of many excellent perks & benefits of 180 Medical -- not to mention the amazing people I get to work with every day! I just don’t think you will be able to find a better work place in Oklahoma. We do things a little different at 180 Medical, but that’s what makes us special.

What's one of your favorite stories of how you helped a fellow employee here?
I was moving from one apartment to another, and two other people on my team where moving also. We all banded together one Saturday and helped each other move. It was great team effort that created the foundation of our friendship.

Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I am a proud member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. I love doing community service and giving back to my city. I am a huge sports fan, and I love the OU Sooners and OKC Thunder.

What is your favorite inspiring quote?

The answer to the unasked question is always NO!

A big thanks to Dennis and our great team of Referral Specialists!

This month, we're excited to feature Jamie, who works as a Confirmations Specialist at 180 Medical.

180 medical confirmations specialist employee spotlight

What do you do as a Confirmations Specialist?
As a Confirmations Specialist, I do many different tasks on a daily basis. My top priority is getting in touch with our customers to see if they are ready for their next order. Some of our other tasks include working on increased prescriptions, and obtaining documentation that lets us provide advanced products for our customers. I also work on prior authorizations, ABN renewals, and I am privileged to be one of the trainers for the department!

What do you love most about 180 Medical?
The positive environment. We just have the best people working together.  We are so team-oriented and strive to provide the best customer service.

180 Medical has many unique qualities, differing from our fundraising techniques to how we celebrate meeting our goals. I have had some of the most delectable treats since I have been a part of the 180 family! And who doesn’t like watching your fellow 180 Medical teammates get a pie in the face (it was for a good cause, I promise!)? Also, I love the laid back feel of the office since we are able to dress casually.

Anything you'd say to someone thinking about applying for a job here? 180 Medical Best Places To Work 2013
I would say DO IT! It will be one of the best decisions you'll ever make. I am so thankful every day for the relationships that I have made with our customers, as well as my teammates. The sweets and different treats are just an added bonus! I am actually excited to come into the office and see what the day holds in store. Not many people have the privilege of saying that and actually meaning it.

What's one of your favorite stories of how you helped a customer or a fellow employee here?
Being on the front lines and speaking with our customers every day, I have been able to hear many stories.

I called a customer one day, and before I could tell him who I was, he said, “I am so glad you caught me!” He went on to tell me that he had barely been at home between taking care of arranging two different funerals, but that he needed his supplies, so I confirmed his order. I told him that we extend our condolences to his loved ones and that if he needed anything, to just give me a call.

His next response brought tears to my eyes. He said that we aren’t just a company to him, but we are more like family. He let me know that we have always been there for him each month and had never let him down. It’s the little things like this that make me LOVE what I do.

What are some of your favorite things to do outside of work?
I love working on cars, playing softball and taking my two dogs to the lake. I also enjoy concerts and watching sports. I have lived in Oklahoma my whole life, so with that comes being an OU fan. Let’s face it, no one is better.

What's a favorite quote that keeps you inspired?
Neither success nor failures are an accident.

Thanks to Jamie, and all the Confirmations Specialists who play such an integral role in the company.

180 Medical Employee Spotlight: Territory Sales Representative

by Jessica June 5 2014 15:03
180 Medical is a national leader in the intermittent catheter industry, and we also provide ostomy and other related supplies. We recruit employees who are positive, hard-working individuals who want to enjoy going to work. We offer a competitive benefits package, extensive training, and many fun extras and perks.

Today, we're featuring Kyle, one of our Territory Sales Representatives!

180 medical sales rep employee spotlight

What are some of your normal duties as a Territory Sales Representative? What's an average day like?
Since we are out in the field interacting daily with nurses, physicians, and facilities, we're essentially the face of 180 Medical. The main part of my job is to create, maintain, and grow business within my territory by interacting with multiple urology accounts throughout my state. We work to gain referrals from these offices and facilities by nurturing relationships, providing the best service, and setting ourselves apart from other representatives out in the field today. We are fully trained with a wealth of knowledge, which we bring to all accounts, so that when/if an office has a need or a question, we're there for them.

Not only are the sales representatives fully trained and ready to help, we have a whole team of specialists at the company headquarters who are just as passionate about taking care of patients and going the extra mile. We get to interact on a daily basis and strive together to provide the best care for our patients.

I always get asked what are some great qualities of a sales rep, and I always say that you must be a driven self-starter and problem-solver, be excellent with your time management, have the heart of a teacher, be influential, and most importantly, have fun with your job.

What do you love most about your job?
The thing I love most about my job is that everyone at 180 Medical seems to be passionate about the work they do in providing excellent care to our patients. At large companies, you very rarely see this total team effort taking place, but at 180 Medical, “team” isn’t just something we say -- it’s our culture. This position is incredibly rewarding because you get the opportunity to interact with different people every day. We truly do have the best job in the world, and we get to work for a pretty amazing company that knows where it’s going. Our CEO Todd Brown does an excellent job of sharing his vision for the company, and his clarity makes you want to be a part of that vision because its real and purpose-driven.

As sales reps, it is our responsibility to do what it takes to make our business successful.  The autonomy that comes with this position is fantastic. Our home office equips us with the tools to be successful and then it becomes up to us whether or not our business will take flight. I love the fact that our service is second to none in our industry.  We really are the best at what we do, and I’ve seen this firsthand in my day to day work. It's always rewarding to hear from nurses how we helped make one of their patient’s life easier. Other companies just don’t put the same amount of effort and passion into serving others as we do here at 180 Medical.

Anything you’d say to someone thinking about applying for a job here?
If you’re passionate about doing work that truly makes a difference in people’s lives, we’d love for you to join our team.

What's one of your favorite stories of how you helped or interacted with a patient or facility (doctor, nurse, etc.)?
As a sales rep, you’ve always got to be prepared to meet your customers' needs. This means if you get a call from an office at 6 p.m. on Friday, and a patient is in need of something, you get to step up to the plate. I firmly believe you get opportunities to set yourself apart from others, and when an opportunity comes you better capitalize on it. I’ve had a handful of the accounts I call on make that call on a Friday asking for supplies to a patient who is in dire need.

I had this one gentleman who lived in an area that didn’t get UPS deliveries on a regular basis so he was  going to have to wait 3 days to get his supplies. The bad news was he needed them now and literally couldn’t wait until Monday.  I told the nurse I would be more than happy to take some supplies to him to hold him over for the weekend. She said, “Kyle, you know its 6 p.m. on a Friday, right?” I responded, “Just because our business day ends doesn’t mean that a patient's need for their supplies ends.”

I drove an hour to meet this gentleman and give him some supplies. He couldn’t believe someone would do something like that on such short notice.  He obviously was very appreciative and gave me a firm handshake with a “Thank you, sir” tacked on to that. He jokingly said "I didn’t realize this type of customer service still existed," and I said, "Yes sir, it does."

What are some of your favorite things to do outside of work?
Growing up in the south three things go incredibly well together: family, football, and food. One of our favorite things to do as a family is to have our family and friends over for a Saturday cookout as we watch our favorite team play (our team is the Auburn Tigers, so last year we thankfully had some great moments to celebrate). There’s truly nothing better than the smell of grilling out a nice steak on a cool fall day while pulling for your team with your family and closest friends.

What's your favorite quote that keeps you inspired?
"I urge all of you to enjoy your life, the precious moments you have. To spend each day with some laughter and some thought, to get your emotions going, to be enthusiastic every day, and -- as Ralph Waldo Emerson said, 'Nothing great could be accomplished without enthusiasm' -- to keep your dreams alive in spite of problems whatever you have. The ability to be able to work hard for your dreams to come true, to become a reality…Don’t give up. Don’t ever give up.”  -- Jim Valvano, ESPY Awards Speech.
