180 Medical's 100 Day Water Challenge

by Jessica August 24 2016 13:09

At 180 Medical, we like to focus on our health. Not only do we have healthy snack options like almonds and fruit in our break-rooms, we also have an onsite gym where our employees can break a sweat and get some daily exercise at lunch or after hours. But one thing people often forget about in their quest to get healthy is how important water can be to our overall health.

Around a month ago, one of our employees had a great idea to challenge as many people as possible at work to drink the right amount of water for their individual needs and body types, and over 160 of us have decided to meet the challenge and give it our best shot.

The 180 Medical 100 Day Water Challenge also raises the stakes by making sure that water is literally the only liquid we drink! No more sugary soda, juices, coffee, and other sugary drinks for us, as we continue on. The goal is to make it a solid 100 days without cheating, but of course, as long as the participants are trying their best to get more water and stave off dehydration, they're taking a step in the right direction.

caffeine and bladder health factWhat are some of the benefits of drinking the right amount of water for your needs and cutting out sugary, caffeine-laden drinks?
  • Easier maintenance of a healthy weight
  • Aids in digestion and prevents constipation (which is often a sign of low-grade dehydration)
  • Decrease in headaches and fatigue
  • Improves your kidney and bladder health

Here's what some of our employees who are taking part in the challenge are saying:

  • "I had no idea how much sugar I was taking in before I started this!"
  • "I feel so much better. I didn't realize how big of a different cutting out sodas and drinking water instead would make."
  • "It's not always easy, but I'm proud of myself when I stick to water."

We hope you find some inspiration in our challenge too! Join us as we continue on for another 70 days. Hopefully we will all be forming some new lifelong habits. Find out more about drinking enough water at WebMD. As always, we recommend that you discuss your individual water intake goals with a healthcare professional, as everyone's individual needs can differ, based on weight, age, gender, and specific condition.

180 Medical Named One of the Best Places to Work for 7th Year

by Jessica August 16 2016 10:24
We here at 180 Medical are proud to once again be selected as one of the Best Places to Work in Oklahoma by okcBiz Magazine. This is the seventh year we have been awarded this prestigious title, and we're so happy to be named one of the top employers in the metro as well as the entire state of Oklahoma.

“Best Places to Work in Oklahoma” is awarded by the Best Companies Group after researching each workplace entered in the competition and its business practices, demographics, and philosophy. The second part consists of an in-depth survey where employees have an opportunity to anonymously share their feedback of what it's really like in their workplace in their own experience. Through this process, the Best Companies Group looks over all information given and determines the final rankings for the companies with the happiest employees and the best work culture.

"We are truly honored and humbled to earn this award," says Director of Human Resources, Sharon Hodnett. "It's great to know that our employees continue to give positive feedback about working at 180 Medical. Such a big part of the great culture is the passion and teamwork that everyone exhibits here on a daily basis, and that's what makes it fun to come to work here every day."

180 Medical is proud to continue to be ranked among the best employers in the state, and we're excited to see the final rankings of the 12th Annual Best Places to Work program, which will be published in the Oklahoma Gazette, on the okc.biz website, and in the 2016 Best Places to Work in Oklahoma magazine on September 28th, 2016.

180 Medical Represents at Annual OU Medicine Corporate Challenge

by Jessica June 7 2016 18:55
At 180 Medical, many of our employees like to band together and be a part of various community events and charity causes. One of our favorite annual events is OU Medicine's annual Corporate Challenge, where the most competitive and athletic among us get a chance to compete alongside executives and employees from neighboring Oklahoma City companies. We had a great turnout of 65 employees who participated this year, as well as other co-workers, friends, and families who came out to help support, have fun, and cheer the others along.

The OU Medicine Corporate Challenge brings together various companies from the Oklahoma City area together to compete in games and raise money for the UCO Endeavor Games, a nationally recognized sporting competition for physically challenged athletes. The 2016 Corporate Challenge is 180 Medical's fifth year in a row to be a part of the Corporate Challenge, where our employees competed in various events such as relays, volleyball, tug-of-war, basketball, dodgeball, cycling, and more.

There was barely a space available for parking at times, so it was awesome to see such a great turn-out from all the Oklahoma City businesses and their employees who all banded together for this great cause. We couldn't have asked for better weather for the event, and there were some tasty treats to be had from some of the local food trucks there.

We're already ready for next year's Corporate Challenge, but we're especially excited to see the final results of how we fared overall this year, which should be posted here soon.

Thundering Up at 180 Medical

by Jessica May 6 2016 08:31
It's another season of celebrating our 180 Medical headquarters' home team, the Oklahoma City Thunder, and their successes during NBA play-offs time. Each year, we all love to go big and show our support in a fun way at work.

Our employees really went all out this year, dreaming up fun themes and decorating in the Thunder's colors, orange and blue, all around their work areas, desks, offices, and even the hallways of 180 Medical. We thought you might like to see a few of the pictures that show our love for the Oklahoma City Thunder team!

While we here at 180 Medical make sure to work hard and take care of our customers, we also like to make time to have a little fun, and that's just one of the many reasons why 180 Medical has been named one of the Best Places to Work in Oklahoma for six years!

180 Medical Participates in Annual Multiple Sclerosis Walk in OKC

by Jessica May 3 2016 09:13
On Saturday, April 30th, the National MS Society held their Central Oklahoma chapter's 2016 Walk MS event at the Wild Horse Park in Mustang, OK, and we here at 180 Medical made sure to take part, as we have for the last six years now.

Multiple Sclerosis affects millions of people all over the world, including many of our customers, who depend on us every month for reliable, friendly service and top-quality supplies. So we like to do what we can to show our support for those affected. Not only that, but taking steps with Walk MS helps support research to help find a cure as well as improve the quality of life for the many men and women living with MS today.

It's a great cause, and it's always a lot of fun for us to get together with our co-workers on a weekend and connect with other local companies and people who are there to support the MS Society. We couldn't have asked for a day with better, more perfect weather. Some of us brought our dogs along for the walk, and many of us brought spouses and children too. And who knew our kids would get to meet some of their favorite characters from Star Wars, Captain America, Ghostbusters, and some Disney Princesses at the finish line too? All in all, it was a great day for a great cause, and we look forward to next year's event!

OKASA Wheelchair Basketball Tournament

by Jessica April 15 2016 19:01
We here at 180 Medical are getting revved up and ready for one of our favorite annual events to support and attend: the OKASA (Oklahoma Adaptive Sports Association, formerly known as GODSA) Wheelchair Basketball Tournament. Each year, we like to get a big group together, bring along our family and friends, and attend this fun tournament, where we get to watch the Oklahoma City Blaze get into the action!

This year's 8th annual tournament, which will be held at Oklahoma City University's Freede Wellness Center on April 28th, 2016, helps to raise funds to support disabled athletes. This makes it our sixth consecutive year to join forces with OU Physicians to support this great event, and we have even formed a team of our own -- for better, for worse!

Do you think we stand a chance to win against the fantastic players of The Blaze? Come and witness the action go down, when our game starts at 7:25 p.m. that evening. We'd love to see you there!

180 Medical's Annual Biggest Loser Competition is Underway

by Jessica February 17 2016 08:26
The turn of the new year is when many people make resolutions to achieve their personal goals, and weight loss is often on those lists of resolutions. So each year, 180 Medical hosts a weight-loss competition for any employee who wants to join in and take part. It's a fun and positive way to encourage employees to stay healthy and get fit. We've got a great participation this year with 63 people competing for the title of 180's "Biggest Loser," which will be determined by the total percentage of weight lost over 8 weeks. Our last weigh-in is just under a month away now, so the heat is on!

It's exciting to see everyone work to support each other by sharing healthy recipes, holding each other accountable on daily workouts, and encouraging the group. Every day, our on-site workout facility is staying full of our employees who are committing to a healthy lifestyle.

Once the competition is over, no matter who the winner...or "biggest loser"...is, it won't be hard for everyone to keep up that hard-earned weight loss year round at 180 Medical, voted one of the Best Places to Work in Oklahoma for multiple years, with an on-site gym (complete with cardio machines, weight machines, and free weights) and healthy snacks like fresh fruit and raw almonds stocked in our office break rooms.

This annual competition is just one of the fun things we get to do at 180 Medical. Interested in having a job you love? Check out available careers at 180 Medical.

Halloween at 180 Medical

by Jessica October 30 2015 18:15
Autumn is passing quickly, but we still make it a point to really enjoy any holiday that comes around, and that certainly includes Halloween. Just this month alone, many employees have decorated their desk and team areas with cute, spooky, and inventive decorations to keep the office looking fun and festive.

No fall celebration is really complete without plenty of pumpkins, so this year, we held another successful pumpkin carving contest, which produced some awesome artwork from our employees and some fun collaborations between co-workers and their families.

But the crowning event is our annual costume contest, which many people get really into and come up with some seriously creative ideas for their costumes, whether they're hoping to grab an award for Best Individual Costume or work together as a department or team for a Best Group Costumes. Last year we had some classic costume ideas, so we were excited to see if the costumes this year could top them, and we certainly had some pretty amazing (and sometimes hilarious) costumes today.

We hope you have as fun of a Halloween celebration as we're having!
