Our employees really went all out this year, dreaming up fun themes and decorating in the Thunder's colors, orange and blue, all around their work areas, desks, offices, and even the hallways of 180 Medical. We thought you might like to see a few of the pictures that show our love for the Oklahoma City Thunder team!

180 Medical Participates in Annual Multiple Sclerosis Walk in OKC

by Jessica May 3 2016 09:13
On Saturday, April 30th, the National MS Society held their Central Oklahoma chapter's 2016 Walk MS event at the Wild Horse Park in Mustang, OK, and we here at 180 Medical made sure to take part, as we have for the last six years now.

Multiple Sclerosis affects millions of people all over the world, including many of our customers, who depend on us every month for reliable, friendly service and top-quality supplies. So we like to do what we can to show our support for those affected. Not only that, but taking steps with Walk MS helps support research to help find a cure as well as improve the quality of life for the many men and women living with MS today.

It's a great cause, and it's always a lot of fun for us to get together with our co-workers on a weekend and connect with other local companies and people who are there to support the MS Society. We couldn't have asked for a day with better, more perfect weather. Some of us brought our dogs along for the walk, and many of us brought spouses and children too. And who knew our kids would get to meet some of their favorite characters from Star Wars, Captain America, Ghostbusters, and some Disney Princesses at the finish line too? All in all, it was a great day for a great cause, and we look forward to next year's event!

OKASA Wheelchair Basketball Tournament

by Jessica April 15 2016 19:01
We here at 180 Medical are getting revved up and ready for one of our favorite annual events to support and attend: the OKASA (Oklahoma Adaptive Sports Association, formerly known as GODSA) Wheelchair Basketball Tournament. Each year, we like to get a big group together, bring along our family and friends, and attend this fun tournament, where we get to watch the Oklahoma City Blaze get into the action!

This year's 8th annual tournament, which will be held at Oklahoma City University's Freede Wellness Center on April 28th, 2016, helps to raise funds to support disabled athletes. This makes it our sixth consecutive year to join forces with OU Physicians to support this great event, and we have even formed a team of our own -- for better, for worse!

Do you think we stand a chance to win against the fantastic players of The Blaze? Come and witness the action go down, when our game starts at 7:25 p.m. that evening. We'd love to see you there!

180 Medical's Annual Biggest Loser Competition is Underway

by Jessica February 17 2016 08:26
The turn of the new year is when many people make resolutions to achieve their personal goals, and weight loss is often on those lists of resolutions. So each year, 180 Medical hosts a weight-loss competition for any employee who wants to join in and take part. It's a fun and positive way to encourage employees to stay healthy and get fit. We've got a great participation this year with 63 people competing for the title of 180's "Biggest Loser," which will be determined by the total percentage of weight lost over 8 weeks. Our last weigh-in is just under a month away now, so the heat is on!

It's exciting to see everyone work to support each other by sharing healthy recipes, holding each other accountable on daily workouts, and encouraging the group. Every day, our on-site workout facility is staying full of our employees who are committing to a healthy lifestyle.

Once the competition is over, no matter who the winner...or "biggest loser"...is, it won't be hard for everyone to keep up that hard-earned weight loss year round at 180 Medical, voted one of the Best Places to Work in Oklahoma for multiple years, with an on-site gym (complete with cardio machines, weight machines, and free weights) and healthy snacks like fresh fruit and raw almonds stocked in our office break rooms.

This annual competition is just one of the fun things we get to do at 180 Medical. Interested in having a job you love? Check out available careers at 180 Medical.

Halloween at 180 Medical

by Jessica October 30 2015 18:15
Autumn is passing quickly, but we still make it a point to really enjoy any holiday that comes around, and that certainly includes Halloween. Just this month alone, many employees have decorated their desk and team areas with cute, spooky, and inventive decorations to keep the office looking fun and festive.

No fall celebration is really complete without plenty of pumpkins, so this year, we held another successful pumpkin carving contest, which produced some awesome artwork from our employees and some fun collaborations between co-workers and their families.

But the crowning event is our annual costume contest, which many people get really into and come up with some seriously creative ideas for their costumes, whether they're hoping to grab an award for Best Individual Costume or work together as a department or team for a Best Group Costumes. Last year we had some classic costume ideas, so we were excited to see if the costumes this year could top them, and we certainly had some pretty amazing (and sometimes hilarious) costumes today.

We hope you have as fun of a Halloween celebration as we're having!

180 Medical once again ranked as one of the Best Places to Work in Oklahoma by okcBiz Magazine.  2015 makes this the sixth year that we have been awarded this title, and we are honored and happy to be counted as one of the top employers in the Oklahoma City metro and the state.

“Since the ranking is based on employee feedback, we feel that speaks volumes to what 180 Medical stands for as a company. When you become a part of 180 Medical, it's like you're part of a big family,” says Director of Human Resources, Sharon Hodnett.  "While we do work hard for our wonderful customer base, we also get to have some fun, such as when we get goal-based treats like ice cream from food trucks or when we have our annual Chili Cook-off.”

“Best Places to Work in Oklahoma” is researched and awarded by the Best Companies Group in an in-depth process in which employees anonymously share their experiences and opinions of their workplace by surveys. by Jessica July 1 2014 14:00

We recruit employees who are positive, hard-working individuals who want to enjoy going to work. We offer a competitive benefits package, extensive training, and many fun extras and perks. This month, we're excited to feature Jamie, who works as a Confirmations Specialist at 180 Medical.

180 medical confirmations specialist employee spotlight

What do you do as a Confirmations Specialist?
As a Confirmations Specialist, I do many different tasks on a daily basis. My top priority is getting in touch with our customers to see if they are ready for their next order. Some of our other tasks include working on increased prescriptions, and obtaining documentation that lets us provide advanced products for our customers. I also work on prior authorizations, ABN renewals, and I am privileged to be one of the trainers for the department!

What do you love most about 180 Medical?
The positive environment. We just have the best people working together.  We are so team-oriented and strive to provide the best customer service.

180 Medical has many unique qualities, differing from our fundraising techniques to how we celebrate meeting our goals. I have had some of the most delectable treats since I have been a part of the 180 family! And who doesn’t like watching your fellow 180 Medical teammates get a pie in the face (it was for a good cause, I promise!)? Also, I love the laid back feel of the office since we are able to dress casually.

Anything you'd say to someone thinking about applying for a job here? 180 Medical Best Places To Work 2013
I would say DO IT! It will be one of the best decisions you'll ever make. I am so thankful every day for the relationships that I have made with our customers, as well as my teammates. The sweets and different treats are just an added bonus! I am actually excited to come into the office and see what the day holds in store. Not many people have the privilege of saying that and actually meaning it.

What's one of your favorite stories of how you helped a customer or a fellow employee here?
Being on the front lines and speaking with our customers every day, I have been able to hear many stories.

I called a customer one day, and before I could tell him who I was, he said, “I am so glad you caught me!” He went on to tell me that he had barely been at home between taking care of arranging two different funerals, but that he needed his supplies, so I confirmed his order. I told him that we extend our condolences to his loved ones and that if he needed anything, to just give me a call.

His next response brought tears to my eyes. He said that we aren’t just a company to him, but we are more like family. He let me know that we have always been there for him each month and had never let him down. It’s the little things like this that make me LOVE what I do.

What are some of your favorite things to do outside of work?
I love working on cars, playing softball and taking my two dogs to the lake. I also enjoy concerts and watching sports. I have lived in Oklahoma my whole life, so with that comes being an OU fan. Let’s face it, no one is better.

What's a favorite quote that keeps you inspired?
Neither success nor failures are an accident.

Thanks to Jamie, and all the Confirmations Specialists who play such an integral role in the company.

180 Medical & the 2014 Corporate Challenge

by Jessica June 11 2014 13:25
We here at 180 Medical are always glad to take the opportunity to jump in and participate in community events that are near and dear to our hearts, and the annual OU Medicine Corporate Challenge is no exception! The Challenge is always a great time for all participants, and it's a fun way to bring together companies from the Oklahoma City metro to raise money for the UCO Endeavor Games, a nationally recognized sporting competition for physically challenged athletes of all ages!

2014 was our third year to be a part of the Corporate Challenge, which included such events as basketball, swimming relay, tug-of-war, obstacle course, volleyball, and more! Unfortunately, due to local inclement weather, a few events were cancelled, but that didn't dampen our team spirit one bit, as you can see from some of the pictures.

We had some great results this year, and many of our employees and teams placed well. We had a record number of almost 80 different employees compete in at least one event or volunteer to help out. Check out the 2014 results here, and stay tuned to our blog for future events and updates!

Editor's Note:
We recently attended the Corporate Challenge Awards Banquet and found out that we won First Place in our division (Division 3, competing against approximately 700 other athletes)!  We sure love coming home with that trophy, but the best "win" was being a part of raising over $80,000 to support the Endeavor Games, the largest multi-sport event for disabled athletes in the United States.

180 Medical Employee Spotlight: Territory Sales Representative

by Jessica June 5 2014 15:03
180 Medical is a national leader in the intermittent catheter industry, and we also provide ostomy and other related supplies. We recruit employees who are positive, hard-working individuals who want to enjoy going to work. We offer a competitive benefits package, extensive training, and many fun extras and perks.

Today, we're featuring Kyle, one of our Territory Sales Representatives!

180 medical sales rep employee spotlight

What are some of your normal duties as a Territory Sales Representative? What's an average day like?
Since we are out in the field interacting daily with nurses, physicians, and facilities, we're essentially the face of 180 Medical. The main part of my job is to create, maintain, and grow business within my territory by interacting with multiple urology accounts throughout my state. We work to gain referrals from these offices and facilities by nurturing relationships, providing the best service, and setting ourselves apart from other representatives out in the field today. We are fully trained with a wealth of knowledge, which we bring to all accounts, so that when/if an office has a need or a question, we're there for them.

Not only are the sales representatives fully trained and ready to help, we have a whole team of specialists at the company headquarters who are just as passionate about taking care of patients and going the extra mile. We get to interact on a daily basis and strive together to provide the best care for our patients.

I always get asked what are some great qualities of a sales rep, and I always say that you must be a driven self-starter and problem-solver, be excellent with your time management, have the heart of a teacher, be influential, and most importantly, have fun with your job.

What do you love most about your job?
The thing I love most about my job is that everyone at 180 Medical seems to be passionate about the work they do in providing excellent care to our patients. At large companies, you very rarely see this total team effort taking place, but at 180 Medical, “team” isn’t just something we say -- it’s our culture. This position is incredibly rewarding because you get the opportunity to interact with different people every day. We truly do have the best job in the world, and we get to work for a pretty amazing company that knows where it’s going. Our CEO Todd Brown does an excellent job of sharing his vision for the company, and his clarity makes you want to be a part of that vision because its real and purpose-driven.

As sales reps, it is our responsibility to do what it takes to make our business successful.  The autonomy that comes with this position is fantastic. Our home office equips us with the tools to be successful and then it becomes up to us whether or not our business will take flight. I love the fact that our service is second to none in our industry.  We really are the best at what we do, and I’ve seen this firsthand in my day to day work. It's always rewarding to hear from nurses how we helped make one of their patient’s life easier. Other companies just don’t put the same amount of effort and passion into serving others as we do here at 180 Medical.

Anything you’d say to someone thinking about applying for a job here?
If you’re passionate about doing work that truly makes a difference in people’s lives, we’d love for you to join our team.

What's one of your favorite stories of how you helped or interacted with a patient or facility (doctor, nurse, etc.)?
As a sales rep, you’ve always got to be prepared to meet your customers' needs. This means if you get a call from an office at 6 p.m. on Friday, and a patient is in need of something, you get to step up to the plate. I firmly believe you get opportunities to set yourself apart from others, and when an opportunity comes you better capitalize on it. I’ve had a handful of the accounts I call on make that call on a Friday asking for supplies to a patient who is in dire need.

I had this one gentleman who lived in an area that didn’t get UPS deliveries on a regular basis so he was  going to have to wait 3 days to get his supplies. The bad news was he needed them now and literally couldn’t wait until Monday.  I told the nurse I would be more than happy to take some supplies to him to hold him over for the weekend. She said, “Kyle, you know its 6 p.m. on a Friday, right?” I responded, “Just because our business day ends doesn’t mean that a patient's need for their supplies ends.”

I drove an hour to meet this gentleman and give him some supplies. He couldn’t believe someone would do something like that on such short notice.  He obviously was very appreciative and gave me a firm handshake with a “Thank you, sir” tacked on to that. He jokingly said "I didn’t realize this type of customer service still existed," and I said, "Yes sir, it does."

What are some of your favorite things to do outside of work?
Growing up in the south three things go incredibly well together: family, football, and food. One of our favorite things to do as a family is to have our family and friends over for a Saturday cookout as we watch our favorite team play (our team is the Auburn Tigers, so last year we thankfully had some great moments to celebrate). There’s truly nothing better than the smell of grilling out a nice steak on a cool fall day while pulling for your team with your family and closest friends.

What's your favorite quote that keeps you inspired?
"I urge all of you to enjoy your life, the precious moments you have. To spend each day with some laughter and some thought, to get your emotions going, to be enthusiastic every day, and -- as Ralph Waldo Emerson said, 'Nothing great could be accomplished without enthusiasm' -- to keep your dreams alive in spite of problems whatever you have. The ability to be able to work hard for your dreams to come true, to become a reality…Don’t give up. Don’t ever give up.”  -- Jim Valvano, ESPY Awards Speech.

A big thank you to Kyle and to all of our amazing Territory Sales Representatives in the field! Your work is so important to the 180 Medical mission, and we appreciate you!

180 Medical Employee Spotlight: Ostomy Department

by Jessica May 7 2014 13:17
180 Medical is a national leader in the intermittent catheter industry, and we also provide ostomy and other related supplies, and we have been named one of the Best Places to Work in Oklahoma again in 2013. Check out this and our other Employee Spotlights on our blog, along with our 180 Medical careers page, to learn more about various departments and positions that may be hiring currently as we continue to grow!

This month, we're happy to present Amanda, who works as an Ostomy Specialist. She has been a part of the 180 Medical family for 5 years now.

180 medical employee spotlight
What do you do as an Ostomy Specialist? Ostomy Specialists talk to and work with patients who have had major intestinal or urologic surgery (a colostomy, ileostomy, or urostomy). We help them find the correct products to care for their stoma and develop a stable process for using these products. We assist them with their medical supplies and insurance coverage, and we also give support and care to help them recover a sense of normalcy as they go about their daily life after surgery. We get trained to acquire extensive knowledge of ostomy products, the various conditions that lead to needing ostomy surgery, and finding out various insurance coverages for these supplies. It's a really rewarding position! What do you love most about working at 180 Medical? Knowing that, at the end of the day, I've hopefully made a positive impact on someone's life, even in the smallest of ways. I love coming to work every day to a positive work environment and to know that I get to work hand in hand with motivated and hardworking people. It really feels like a family here. 180 Medical is a rewarding place to work.  I would encourage anyone looking for an encouraging atmosphere and a team structure to apply.  I've been with 180 Medical for 5 years and have had the opportunity to learn some different job functions and what I like to do best.

Tell us a little bit about yourself. I am originally from Pittsburgh. I grew up in Dallas and moved to Oklahoma to attend The University of Oklahoma from which I graduated with a degree in Psychology. Since I have lived in some fanatic sports towns, I'm a huge sports fan. My favorite teams are the Pittsburgh Steelers, the OKC Thunder, and of course, the OU Sooners. Boomer Sooner!

What's one of your favorite 180 Medical memories? I recently spoke with a patient that was recommended to contact our company by her physician after having a poor experience with another provider. When I first contacted her, she let me know that she was suffering from terminal cancer. She said she really appreciated how kind and considerate the people at 180 Medical were. She emphasized several times how impressed she was with our customer service and wanted to know how much it was appreciated to be treated compassionately, especially in this difficult time in her life.  It was a really touching reminder of why we do what we do every day!

What's a quote that inspires you in your daily work? "One man can make a difference, and every man should try." -- Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis
