180 Medical Supports ZERO Prostate Cancer Run

180 Medical was proud to attend as well as help support this wonderful cause. This run was the second annual event for ZERO. Our employees are always excited for chances to participate in charitable events and community outreaches.

Nearly 240,000 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer this year alone, including more than 9,000 in Illinois. ZERO Prostate Cancer Challenge raises funds that are critical for increasing awareness and fighting the disease.

Funds raised from ZERO Prostate Cancer Run help with prostate cancer research funding. Additionally, supporting this organization helps support free testing as well as educational efforts.

About Prostate Cancer

Men don’t often go to the doctor about unusual symptoms until it’s too late. Helping promote awareness about prostate cancer may help more men approach their doctors earlier when they notice something is wrong.

Unfortunately, many times, prostate cancer exhibits no symptoms, especially in its early stages. However, here are a few symptoms that people with prostates may experience:

  • Difficulty urinating
  • Blood in urine or semen
  • Unexplained weight loss or fatigue
  • Weak stream

If you suspect you may be dealing with prostate cancer, please make an appointment to see your doctor.

Facts about Prostate Cancer

Prostate cancer is a malignant growth in the tissue of the prostate, which is a gland in the male reproductive system. The prostate is below the bladder and in front of the rectum. It wraps around the urethra, the tube through which urine flows. Cancer can cause the tumor to grow, and this can result in urine retention.

Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers found in American men. It is important that men should begin prostate testing at age 50.

Two tests may help diagnose the disease:

  • PSA blood test to measure the prostate antigen in the blood
  • DRE (digital rectal exam)
