How to Use a Female Hydrophilic Catheter For Women
Important Note: Do you experience pain or discomfort when using a standard uncoated catheter? Hydrophilic catheters may be a good choice for you. Plus, once you get the hang of using them, you may find them even easier and more convenient. While some brands of hydrophilic catheters come pre-hydrated and ready to use right out of the package, others require activation first. Hydrophilic catheters that need to be activated usually contain a packet of sterile saline solution. If the catheter has a packet, you must burst the packet to allow the contents to soak the catheter fully. This activates the catheter’s hydrophilic properties.
To do this, unfold the package. Next, fold the water packet about halfway and apply pressure with your thumb and forefinger. This should burst the package and release the solution. Make sure that the solution has fully coated the catheter. Allow at least 30 seconds to fully hydrate.
