Is ostomy leakage normal?

Pouch leaks are a common ostomy issue, but it doesn't have to be the norm. First, consider what might be causing the issue, such as:

  • A poor-fitting skin barrier or ostomy pouching system (a size or product that isn't right for you)
  • Improper seal due to uneven skin creases or folds
  • Letting the pouch get too full, which can sometimes cause the skin barrier to lift

If the products you're using aren't working for you, reach out to our friendly Ostomy Specialists. We can help you find something that fits your unique body type, lifestyle, preferences, and needs (based on your insurance and healthcare provider's guidance).
