Sarah and her Mom, Margo - 180 Medical Customers

TRANSCRIPT

Sarah: Hi, I'm Sarah, I'm 31. I have Spina Bifida.

Margo: I'm Margo, I'm her mother and caregiver. We've been with 180 Medical for about 14 years, since she first had her bladder reconstruction surgery.

They told us she would be severely mentally retarded, probably vegetative, and might need institutionalization. The hydrocephalus was quite severe. We didn't understand the bladder and bowel issues we'd face.

When she was about nine months old, she kept having UTIs. Doctors performed a vesicostomy—creating an opening below the belly button where the bladder drains continuously. Later, the doctor said, "There's this relatively new surgery where she can catheterize through her belly button." That sounded ideal, but even after discussing it, I wasn't prepared for the supplies needed or how much our lives would change.

Sarah: I can cath anywhere now. It's made a huge difference for my independence.

Margo: At first it felt very strange—that's the best word. Going from doing everything for her to, "Okay, now it's my turn to handle this." That transition felt good, like something was finally going right.

After surgery, they connected us with 180 Medical. We had a long phone consultation about her specific needs and catheter types. Talking to knowledgeable people when you're clueless yourself is incredibly comforting.

Beyond finding perfect products, their customer service is vital. Catheterization is very personal and private, but they make you feel comfortable, like you're just discussing the weather. When they first sent samples of different catheters, I wouldn't have known what to choose without testing options.

I've always reached someone quickly. Representatives are knowledgeable and precise. The reliability is unmatched; I've always been able to count on them.

I'd highly recommend 180 Medical, not just for their exceptional service (which is reason #1), but also for providing exactly the right products (also reason #1). They go hand-in-hand. We've never considered another supplier. Having compassionate, understanding support for this atypical situation provides incredible comfort.
